This website provides the public access to real-time criteria air pollution data in the Birmingham area. This website also provides information on air quality forecasts, regional air quality, archived data, and other air quality related information.
The startup of this website was funded by the Environmental Protection Agencies' (EPA) EMPACT (Environmental Monitoring for Public Access and Community Tracking) program. EMPACT is an EPA program to assist local agencies to improve environmental monitoring and assessment and, especially, outreach to the public. EMPACT-Birmingham was managed by the Jefferson County Department of Health (JCDH), and in partnership with the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM), University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH), and MCNC Environment Program (NC).
This website is now supported through Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement (CMAQ) funding from the Alabama Partners for Clean Air (APCA) that is managed by the Regional Planning of Greater Birmingham (RPCGB). JCDH currently manages this website with UAH maintaining this website.
